Title: Sorrow Drips Into Your Heart Through a Pinhole
Rating: PG
Summary: There are times when her thoughts can no longer be contained, times that truths she has kept to herself work their way up to the surface and she is left with no choice but to let them out.
Disclaimer: I do not own Lost. At all. I wish but alas...
Author's Note: Used for [info]un_love_you, prompt #19: This isn't about you at all. Vague spoilers for ‘Something Nice Back Home’.

Juliet doesn’t confess that Jack kissed her for Kate. She doesn’t tell her her suspicions about Jack’s motives for Kate either. She doesn’t do either because she knows that Jack is awake and that he is listening to them. It isn’t about either of them. It’s about her.

She needs to hear herself say these things, outloud. She lives very much in her own head, and while that works to her advantage at times, there are other times that it does her no good at all. There are times when her thoughts can no longer be contained, times that truths she has kept to herself work their way up to the surface and she is left with no choice but to let them out.

On some level, she has always known that Jack loves Kate. On some level, she has always known that a day like this would come. What she says to Kate, and, in a way, to Jack, is an admission of that fact. But it is not for them. It is for her.

Because she knows herself. She knows that if she says these things, she will be stepping outside of her mind, and bringing the truth out with her. And then she will have to face it. And then she will move on.

Thanks, hun. :) I haven't written her in about a month, and that's a shame, so I was happy (after Thursday's episode) to be inspired.

That was beautiful and perfect Juliet.

And then she will move on.
I hope she does. Aww, how I love her.

You did a great job.

I think Juliet is a strong woman. And if she's meant to (which the flashforwards seem to indicate she is) I think she will be able to move forward from her feelings for Jack.

I'm glad you liked this, thank you.

Lovely, just lovely <3

Poor Juliet it's not fair she's in this position :(

I really do wish that it was different too. I have nothing against Jate, or Kate really, but I just wish it had been Juliet is all.

I'm glad you liked this, thanks.

I kind of...I don't know, expected this thing out of you, and I'm really glad I was right. There's always that one character that each person just gets and I always used to think it was Sun with you, but now it seems you get Juliet just as much. So I guess you have two specialities.

On to the story itself. I love what you're saying in here. Sometimes we know things but they aren't real until someone says them outloud, even if it's just by ourselves. What you said about her living in her head is very true and I love that you explored that.

Very insightful fic. Great job!

(Also, I love that line that you used for the title. One of my favorite songs by DCFC)

Well, that's really nice of you to say. I've been writing Sun for so long that I'm comfortable with her and confident in my ability to write her. But I can never be sure with Juliet sometimes, so, for you to say that is an incredibly lovely thing to hear.

I think Juliet had to live in her own head to protect herself. I know what that's like, and I also know that some things just aren't real until you say them out loud. I'm fairly confident that what Juliet said had nothing to do with either Jack or Kate. I actually might write what Jack said to Juliet after she said she knew he was awake next.

Marching Bands of Manhatten is definitely in my top five. God, I love Death Cab. I've named so many fics after their songs, I've lost track. ;)

I'm glad you liked the fic, hun! This was all so lovely of you to say.

I for one would love to see that. I have to say that that whole scene was one of my favorite moments from last episode and I'd love to see it continued.

I thought I was the only one, lol :) Good to know.

I'm thinking it over. I kind of really want to write an angsty Jack/Juliet fic. With sex. Why? I don't know. I just want to, so I'm thinking this might be the right place to explore that. It was a great scene. And, you know what, even though it was pretty much a Jate episode, I think I'm more interested in the Juliet parts, and how she reacted (cooly and calmly) to the whole thing.

Well here's your angst.

As far as this being a Jate episode, in retrospect, I think it was all a little too much. Even for me, who's been shipping that since day one. It was too much to handle, and I think it makes me value the on-island aspects of the episode even more.

The thing that struck me though with Juliet in that episode was that she gets him way better than Kate does and she's known him for less time, and it's kind of unfortunate that she showed up when she did because there's just too much history with Jack and with Kate for this to really happen. At least now. At least the way I see it.

As much as I think the Jaters really deserved their time in the sun after the Skaters have been soaking it up for so long, I also think there was a bit of a Jate overload in this episode. Even if I really expected a relationship between Jack and Kate to go exactly how it went. The things happening on the island were much more interesting to me, in the end. The Jack/Juliet/Kate dynamic was interesting to watch play out because, for once, Kate and Juliet were not antagonists to one another, they were coming together to help Jack.

The thing that struck me though with Juliet in that episode was that she gets him way better than Kate does and she's known him for less time, and it's kind of unfortunate that she showed up when she did because there's just too much history with Jack and with Kate for this to really happen. I think you're right, that Jack has too much baggage with Kate, and Jack is not a man who knows how to let go of his baggage. Juliet came into his life at a time where he was already hooked into this other woman. I will always believe that Juliet is the better choice for Jack, and that she understands him in a way that Kate doesn't. But I always knew that it would be Kate in the end.

I guess this episode showed me that, while I appreciate Jack/Kate, when it comes down to it, I'm much more of a Jack/Juliet shipper. I suspected that might have been the truth, but the more I think about it, the more this episode kind of confirms that for me.
