Ben tells her about his plans to take Karl with them to the other island. He trusts her; that is a big mistake.

Juliet waits a week, bides her time, and then tells Alex.

Everyone hears the fight that ensues. Hears Alex screaming through tears, the slamming of doors, Ben’s attempt to soothe her, coerce her back into the house. Alex runs as far as she can, as hard as she can.

Ben doesn’t chase after her, only because he knows she has nowhere to go.

She shows up on Juliet’s back porch and says, “I hate him.”

Juliet nods.
