Lost. At all. I wish but alas...
Author's Note: So, in the middle of waiting for Lost to premiere last night, a plot bunny bit me. And the muse decided to grace me with her presense and then there was this. I'm so unsure what time this is set in, and I'm slightly nervous about posting it because it's so far removed from last night's premiere, but you know what, I'm just gonna do it anyway. :D This also fits (I think)
psych_30, prompt #14: fixation.
“Look, Chewie, I still can’t understand a word you’re sayin’ any better then you can understand me.”
“Sun,” Jin says, sounding frustrated. Sawyer knows the feeling.
“Okay, I got that one,” he replies, exasperated. Jin ignores him, rolling his eyes, and presses on. He holds up his hand and pointing to his ring.
“Yeah, what about it?”
Jin shakes his head and Sawyer heaves a very put-upon sigh. “Jeez, I feel like I’m talkin’ to Lassie here.”
“Marry,” Jin says loudly, obviously proud of himself for thinking of the correct word.
“You’re already married,” he replies, narrowing his eyes.
Jin nods his head, and Sawyer is finally beginning to feel like he is getting somewhere, so he tries to dig deeper.
“You wanna get married again?” Jin nods vigorously. “Well good on you. Go right ahead.”
Jin sighs and shakes his head. “Ask her,” he says adamantly.
“You want
me to ask her?” He suddenly wonders if Jin had gone very, very crazy. The other man sighs again and Sawyer wonders what he isn’t getting.
“Teach me. Ask her.”
“Oh.” He stares at Jin for a long while, then frowns. “Why me?”
“You know Sun,” Jin replies.
“Lots of people know Sun. And it sounds like you know plenty of English already anyway.”
Jin narrows his eyes at Sawyer. Apparently, he had the ability to make others exasperated with his own stubborn exasperation.
“Yeah, alright, fine. I’ll teach you,” he relents, but makes sure to roll his eyes before doing it.
Jin slowly walks up the path to Sun’s garden, stopping in front of a line of bushes and nervously bouncing on his heels. He takes a deep breath, pushing the undergrowth aside and carefully steping into the garden. She lifts her head and smiles, though her forehead was covered in sweat and she looks terribly weary.
“Hello,” she greets him, sitting back on her heels. He smiles and weaves his way through growing plants and flowers, coming to rest next to her.
She watches him questioningly, and is about to ask him if something is wrong when his hand reaches out and cups her cheek. Her mouth closes instantly, and so do her eyes, as she leaned into his touch.
“Will you marry me?” Her eyes snap open. It hadn’t come out perfectly, a little run together and over enunciated, but the meaning was clear.
And yet, Sun still stammers, “What did you say?” And in Korean, no less.
He smiles, wide and open and happy, and repeats, “Will you marry me?”
And what could she do at that point, other then throw her arms around his neck and scream “yes” at the top of her voice.
“So, what’d you say?”
She frowns, confused, and moves one of her red pieces. “To what?” she asks, studying the board, planning her next move.
“Don’t tell me Jin punked out on me.”
She stares at him, wide-eyed. “You knew about that?”
“You think he learned to speak English all by himself?”
He moves one of his black pieces and tells her it was her turn, but she is still staring at him dumbly. He sits back and waits, until she finally shakes her head and returns her attention to the game.
“I’m surprised that you didn’t teach him something dirty to say to me,” she replies, then adds, “King me.”
Sawyer smirks at her then pulls one of her red pieces back from the pile, placing it on top of the one that had invaded his back row. The familiar Darmah logo stares up at him.
“I’m surprised at you Sunshine. You really think I’d do something like that to the poor guy?”
“Yes,” she replies as her newly kinged piece took one of his two remaining kings.
“Yeah, I probably would,” he said, looking up from the board, a smirk across his face.
“Yeah,” he agreed, and it must have been contagious, because soon she was smirking too.
“Sun? Is it safe to come in?”
She smiles and turns, pulling open the flap of the tent and letting the sunlight spill in. Claire steps through, smiling, with her baby in her arms. She is wearing a plain white sundress and her hair is pulled up and decorated here and there with pink and purple flowers from Sun’s garden.
“He looks so handsome,” Sun says of baby Aaron, who is wearing the most formal looking clothes that Claire has been able to make for him. He seems to grow like a weed, needing new clothes every other week.
“Look at you,” Claire says, taking a step back and nodding her approval. “You look amazing.”
“Do you think so?”
“I know so. Jin is going to love it.”
Sun picks up a small mirror, a compact that’s make up is long gone. She tries to get a better look at her reflection, to piece together the bits and pieces that she can see like a puzzle, but it isn’t working very well. She sighs and sets it down.
“I hope so,” she whispers nervously.
“Sun?”
The tent flap is parted again and Kate sticks her head inside. “Wow,” she says. “You look…wow.”
“Thank you,” Sun replied modestly, as Kate enters the tent.
“I can’t remember the last time I wore a dress, so this is going to have to do.” Kate seems sheepish, but as Sun took in her long black pants and crisp white blouse, she couldn’t see why.
“You look lovely,” she says and Kate smiles.
“I brought you something.” She approaches Sun and holds up a handkerchief. Unfolding it carefully, she reveals inside two white flowers that are very familiar to Sun. Her heart stops for just as second as she reaches out and runs her fingers along them. “Here,” she offers, carefully picking them up and placing them inside the bun that Sun has made in her hair.
“Thank you Kate,” Sun says, holding her hand tightly.
“Hey in there, everybody decent?”
Sun rolls her eyes. “No Sawyer, we’re all naked,” she calls back, causing Kate to give her a sideways look and Claire to almost burst out laughing. Light enters the tent once more as the flap is pulled back and Sun levels her gaze to meet Sawyer’s.
“Very funny Sunshine,” he says. “It’s gettin’ to be about that time.”
Kate turns to Sun, who was still grasping her hand tightly. “Are you ready?” she asks.
Sun nods. “Yes,” she says, squeezing Kate’s hand one last time before letting go.
“Then let’s get this show on the road ladies.” Sawyer steps back, holding the tent flap open. Claire leaves first, followed by Kate. Together the quickly make their way up the beach to the church. Sun takes a deep breath and steps out into the sun.
“May not be the best time to tell you this, but you look pretty hot in that dress.” Sawyer smirks, but then shoves his hands in his pockets and stares at the sand. She smiles at him, or more at the top of his head, as they slowly walked up the beach.
“I appreciate that,” she says. “I never thought I’d see you in anything but a tee shirt and jeans.”
“Yeah, well, don’t get used to it,” he replies with what Sun would classify as a grumble.
“I appreciate that you made the effort.”
“You tryin’ to embarrass me or does it just come naturally to you?”
She smirks and nudges him with her shoulder. “It must.”
He finally takes his eyes off of the sand, staring down at her through strands of his hair and smiling. He nudges her back as they reach the door of the church. “Well, guess it’s now or never Sunshine,” He says, stepping in front of the open door. “See you inside.”
She smiles at him as he disappears from sight. She wonders how many of them came, if they would all be able to fit in the few rows of pews that the church had. She wondered what Jin would look like, telling herself that she had seen him just this morning. But somehow, she couldn’t help but think that he would look different somehow.
With a deep breath, she took the first step, and then another until she was inside the church, walking up a long aisle through a sea of her friends, smiling warmly at her. She is vaguely aware of the faint strum of a guitar, which she guesses is in Charlie’s hands.
But she isn’t focusing on any of that. She is looking at Jin, who is standing at the end of the aisle wearing a pair of dark pants and a navy blue shirt. And he is looking at her. She thinks back on their wedding day, her in an expensive dress, him in a suit, and she can’t help but feel that this is better. This feels like them, like they have finally found out what that means.
She comes to a stop next to him. He is smiling at her and she is smiling back. Over his shoulder Jack stands with his hands folded in front of him. He looks at her and he seems happy. She knows Sawyer is standing behind her, because she had asked him too, but she can almost feel him, and somehow his presence calms her nerves.
Eko joins them at the front of the church and opens his Bible.
“Dearly beloved,” He says in a very deep voice. “We are gathered here today…”
